Mathematics, International Exchange and Space Flight are the three topics which are shaping my career. These three thematic pillars are building the basis of my today's professional activities and private interests.
The purpose of this website is to present an overview of these activities. The page provides background information about my career path and my current professional role. It assembles my contributions in academia and in industry, my teaching and engineering experiences and my engagement in international exchange programs.

Mathematics |

I am a mathematician by education – and with great enthusiasm. The clear structures of its abstract concepts make mathematics a very esthetic discipline to categorize complex relations and to deduct logical consequences. Mathematics is the language of logic and as such it enters practically all fields of human activities – possibly in different "dialects". Along with spoken languages mathematics is the most commonly practiced science. Its grammar and vocabulary is understood worldwide and it is the standard way of communicating logical and quantitative contexts.
My mathematical research activities are focused on the analytical disciplines. The description of complex dynamical systems and the analysis of their evolution under external influences are my central interest. I have studied dynamical systems in a rigorous setting of quantum physics. As an engineer I am applying dynamical system theory to control problems of spacecrafts.
The chapter Academia gives an overview of my research and teaching activities in Mathematical Physics.

Space Flight |

|
My professional career in industry is linked to the space sector. Based on a mathematical education with focus on industrial applications I started working as a Flight Dynamics Engineer for science missions of the European Space Agency. By moving into the industrial sector as System Engineer for Guidance, Navigation and Control I complemented my knowledge of the space business.
The chapter Space Flight gives an overview of my project experience, technical expertise and my affiliations in the industry.

International Relations |
|
|
Academic research and space engineering have in common to be very internationally oriented fields of activity. As a consequence, my entire professional career has been influenced and enriched by a multi-cultural and international work environment.
As part of my post-graduate education I started broadening my culture horizon during a two-year research stay in Canada. The strong ties developed with this country during this period were leading me into an enduring commitment for the German-Canadian dialogue based on the exchange of young leaders from both countries.
My career path in the space industry was ever since in an international environment – either inside a multi-national agency or in a foreign country.
The chapter International Relations gives an overview of my international projects and interests.
